KUA Crews Help Light Up South Florida

Kissimmee, FL (PRWEB) November 8, 2005 -- Utility crews from Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) traveled to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. on Nov. 4 to assist in the battle to restore power in areas devastated by Hurricane Wilma.

KUA sent 10 linemen, six vehicles and several thousand pounds of supplies to assist Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) with the restoration of electricity.

The restoration team in south Florida now totals nearly 19,000 line workers from 33 states and Canada. Together, they have restored power to more than three million FPL customers -- or 94 percent of those affected by Hurricane Wilma.

This marks the fourth time in three months that KUA crews have provided mutual assistance to hurricane-damaged areas. In August and September, KUA employees helped restore electric service to those affected by Hurricane Katrina in Key West, Fla. and Kiln, Miss. In October, KUA crews traveled to the Fort Pierce/Port St. Lucie area to assist with Hurricane Wilma restoration efforts.
