World Minerals Attorney Joins Hatch & Parent

SANTA BARBARA, CA (PRWEB) September 7, 2005 -- Arnold E. Brier, former assistant general counsel and chief compliance officer at World Minerals Inc., has joined the California law firm of Hatch & Parent. Brier will join the firm’s business practice and lead the firm’s expanding general counsel practice that provides ongoing legal counsel to businesses that do not have a full-service in-house legal department.

“There is a strong demand for business lawyers with broad and deep experience in a number of practice areas,” according to Steven A. Amerikaner, Hatch & Parent’s managing partner. “Arnie has that kind of experience, including a strong international legal background. His 15 years of experience working in-house at World Minerals and Mobil Oil will be a significant asset to our business clients.”

"Businesses that operate without in-house counsel often wait until a problem develops into a full-blown crisis before consulting an attorney," says Brier. "Many of these legal problems could be avoided or quickly resolved if the company has general counsel available to regularly review its operations, identify potential legal problems and take appropriate action. Hatch & Parent’s general counsel practice greatly enhances the ability of a small business to stay abreast of new laws and regulations and better compete in today's marketplace."

As part of its general counsel practice, Hatch & Parent’s business attorneys become familiar with the inner workings of the client’s operations. This enables the firm to respond quickly, efficiently and proactively to its clients’ needs.

While at World Minerals, a $250 million multinational materials science company, Brier handled large-scale asset purchases, corporate restructurings, company formations, mergers and dissolutions of business entities, major bank financings, credit transactions and international distributor and supply agreements. He also supervised the work of outside counsel throughout the world. Before joining World Minerals, Brier was senior counsel for Mobil Oil Corporation and Southwest Region counsel for Mobil Land Development Corporation, Mobil's real estate subsidiary. His responsibilities included negotiating and producing international exploration and complex real estate transactions. Brier received his law degree from the University of Michigan School of Law and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UCLA with a degree in economics.

Hatch & Parent is a full-service law firm with expertise in corporate and tax law, complex litigation, real estate and land use, employment law, public agency, water law, environmental quality, trusts and estates, appellate law and legislative advocacy.
