Commercial Uses of Natural Gas

Natural gas is used in many homes in the US but it is also used for commercial purposes, but they are very similar. You must have in clear that commercial segments involve private and public companies such like restaurants, hotels, buildings, schools, churches, government buildings and others. This segment of the economy uses natural gas especially for space heath, water heating and cooling. For some businesses like restaurants and some hotels where cooking facilities are necessary, natural gas is a good option to their needs.

For the year 2003 (according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA)), the business segment consumed approximately 8,368 trillion Btu of energy (British thermal unit) and from those 8,368 Btu’s of energy 3,233 trillion (39 %) were fulfilled with natural gas for things like cooling, lighting, water heating, drying, cooking and other activities.

Natural gas at this time accounts for 13 % of the total of energy used in marketable cooling, but this fraction is likely to augment due to technological advances in commercial natural gas cooling systems.

There are three kinds of natural gas driven cooling methods. The first method is the engine driven chillers, which use a natural gas engine and not an electrical one. Doing that with that procedure, the waste heat of the gas engine may be used for heating applications augmenting power effectiveness. The second type of cooling with natural gas is named absorption and consists in providing cool air through the evaporation of a refrigerant such like ammonia. Finally, the third type is the gas base desiccant methods, which consists in reducing the humidity in the air.

As you see, there are many uses for natural gas and the most important aspect is that it is cheaper than electric energy.
